Week 8: Alone....

As I was walking to my apartment from work, I noticed that this street light was so interesting. It was so isolated from the other street lights because it was the last street light on the block. Even though it was alone, I felt so illuminated by the light. I felt quite hopeful because even though it was the last street light I passed by that block, the light's essence seemed to had stayed with me until I got back to my apartment safely. I figured that the light left a lasting sense of safety in myself. In this picture, the light is slightly saturated and a not-so-strong light source. As shown, the light stops lighting the dark shadows on the left and right sides in the photo. However, the light encompasses the leaves and defines the gaps between them. This lonely street light becomes more than just a creation, but infuses itself into an emotion.

Week 8: Silhouetted Nelson's Column

This is a picture I took of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square, London. It was an unusually sunny day for mid-December, but the quality of the sunlight was somewhat harsh. When I attempted to take a picture of Nelson's Column and the massive Christmas tree next to it, both ended up in silhouette because the sun's back-lighting was so bright. I thought the lighting created interesting photograph - the eye is drawn more to the negative space around Nelson's Column rather than to the famous landmark itself. I also like the contrast between the bright blue of the sky and relative lack of color in the column and the tree. Additionally, I am very drawn to the effect of the sun in the exact center of the picture, and the way that its rays are fanning out through the branches of the tree.

Week #8 Northern Lights

The Aurora Borealis, or the northern lights, is something I've always wanted to see. They just look so magical and make me realize how infinite the world is. Charged particles entering the atmosphere and interacting with earth and the magnetic field to the point where a stream of color streaks along the sky. Lighting theaters and shows are wonderful in that we as humans can manipulate electricity to project light in a variety of colors and sizes. But Northern Lights are mysterious. They have to do with protons and electrons coming into contact with one another. It requires hitting earth's protective magnetic field. Somehow, an accidental occurrence like this creates a glow of light that looks stunning against the night sky. It reminds me so much of lights on a backdrop. It's interesting how there are so many parallels to lighting. We have the lights on the stage and then we have the lights all around the universe. The deeper we go out of earth, the more unexplainable their origins are.

Week 8: Mountains and Trees

I took this picture with my iPhone from the Watson Bridge in front of UCI last week. I wondered what it was about snow covered mountains with green trees in the foreground that is so beautiful. Landscape paintings commonly feature these two elements (think Bob Ross), and people visit the Sierras in droves to witness in person.  Images such as these are so commonplace, they almost become generic. The sight can be wonderful, even awe-inspiring for me and others, but oftentimes mundane.

The snow reflects all, or almost all, visible wavelengths of light, whereas the trees absorb quite a lot. Indeed, that absorption is what helps trees live. Juxtaposed reflective vs. absorptive surfaces (light vs. dark) are striking to our eyes. Another interesting contrast is how the trees draw the eye to the vertical plane with the trees, and mountains to the horizontal.  The blue sky, between the green and white in hue, and suggesting both planes at once brings it all together, giving context and  smoothing out the picture.

A trees GOBO could be used to produce a similar scene on a backdrop painted with mountains, but what would be the point? If the mountains don't change from the audience's perspective, neither would the trees.  Best to just paint the trees on. Actually, I could see how such a backdrop painted to look like my photo above could be frustrating to light. The shadows on the mountains and trees would never change, even when the lighting angles would.  The sky is blue. What about when it's night? Twilight? A blank Cyc, with perhaps free-standing mountains and trees cut-outs just downstage (not painted in detail) would give more options.

Week#8 New Orleans

I always pictured New Orleans filled with lights on the streets. This month my mother went to New Orleans for a business trip. And the moment she told me that I urged her to take loads of photos of all the lights on the streets of New Orleans. Looking at the photos I was not disappointed at all! Seeing how crisp and bright the lights define the building and their designs is simply beautiful. The buildings give off a vintage, antique, European atmosphere, but with the lights added in, it gives off a modern twist. The vibrant colors just bring the city to life yet it still gives off the cultural beauty of the buildings. Looking at the photos I feel more drawn into the scenery. With the knight sky pitch black just contrasts so well with the bright vibrant colorful lights. If only I was able to be there in person and be in awe with everything and the culture itself. Sadly my mother wasn't there for Mardi Gra, but I imagine it being livelier than the streets of New Orleans with the music of Jazz and Kajun cuisines.

Week 8: Drops of Water

Drops of Water

I chose this picture for this week's blog post for many reasons. I really really love this picture. After completing both the Picturization Project and the Our Town final project, I have put into practice taking pictures and drawing inspiration from them in order to create lighting cues. It was interesting to see how you can chose a picture that does not have a direct connection to the content that needs to be lit but utilize it to create the feeling and mood you want to achieve through lighting. If I was creating a cue based off this picture I would chose the words: glittering, wonder, and innocence t o accompany the image. For my lighting I would want to create a really open welcoming space with lighting that is reminiscent of a really clear beautiful day.

Week 6: Purple Hair

This past summer, my friend Cat dyed her hair purple, so I thought it would be fun to do a photoshoot with her! While we were exploring places on campus, I noticed there was a tiny empty space in between two of the buildings in the social science area. This space allowed sunlight to come through and hit a part of the sidewalk we were walking on. Immediately I had the idea of having her lie down and positioning her so that her hair was spread out right in the pocket of light. This produced vibrant colors that allowed for many shades of purple to be visible throughout her hair. Later, I edited the photo using a filter from VSCOcam and a diagonal square target effect from an app called Fragment (just to add texture and abstraction). I really like how the photo turned out overall!

Week 6 Source Study

Yesterday afternoon I spent a day at the beach in San Diego. The day was perfect, the sun was shining and I could feel its warmth on my skin. However, in a matter of about 30 seconds a thick mist crept in covering the sun, and replacing the one warm sky with a far cooler one. Instantly the mood of the beach changed-people started leaving, and suddenly the trip was less pleasant. Whereas just a few minutes before I needed sunglasses because the sun was too bright to look at, the mist displaced the sun's harsh rays and instead dispersed the light. I captured the photo right at this moment because I found it fascinating how the sun, such a prominent force, could so quickly become difficult to find. In just a few moments the beach went from a warm place, to a grey world. The water turned from a brilliant blue to a greyish white was, and the once sparkling sand dulled. I was surprised by how quickly the lighting could effect my day at the beach as well as my mood and the moods of those around me.

Week 6: On My Way

I took this picture outside of my apartment on my to the beach for my Valentines Day Date. I had to stop the car because I really liked the way the sun shined through the tree and I wanted to take the picture. The source is of course the sun, but I really enjoy how it lit the tree from behind and made it seem like it was way bigger than it is through the shadow it was casting. We were on our way to the beach to watch the sunset and we thought we were not going to make it in time. When I looked outside and saw this I really didn't care if we missed it because I really enjoyed having seen this.

Week 6: Amber Way

On occasion I at night enjoy walking around, and I especially like walking through the park seen above. The amber color from the lights that line the path way give it a very warm and homely feel. If the above lights were to be replaced with a blue florescent light it would definitely give it a much different feel, probably more intense and surreal, I took this picture the other night at 2am with no other filter it the entire lighting effect is from the lights itself.

Week 6: My Silhouetted Cat

Above is a picture I took of my cat sitting in the sunlight that shines through the window of our back door.  I noticed all of the silhouettes that formed in the shadows and how the sunlight created a spotlight for her.  The frame in the window acted as a gobo and created a space for her.  For a moment, she was in her own space, enjoying the warmth and peace that the sunlight gave her.  This reminded me of the project that we just did in class where we do not always need color to create an effective picture.  She also tends to crave attention a lot of the time and this acted as her lime light.

Week 6: Generations

In this photo are my mother and grandmother, both named Maria. Grandma got sick this past week and ended up in the hospital for a few days, so we went to visit her. I took this picture candidly while my mom brushed my grandma's hair as she wasn't able to do so herself at the time. What inspired me within this picture was the love it expressed in it's simplicity. There is a soft light falling on both of them from the open window. It seems almost cool in it's appearance, but it warms me.

Week #6: Morning Drive

I took this photo on my way to school last Wednesday. I couldn't resist taking the picture even though it's illegal. I loved how the sky is about to get clear, but it wasn't. The clouds contained so many different beautiful hues of blue and the trees were black. There was a weird, haunting vibe while driving the freeway. Yet, when I looked up and saw the clouds spread out and more of the blue sky appear, I felt better. It's cheesy, but it's the light defeating the dark.

Week 6: Disney Magic

I knew one of my posts had to have something to do with Disney! :) I love the lighting in this show despite its ridiculous over the top acting, it still all seems so magical to me. "A Whole New World" is definitely my favorite scene and I just love the way the cool purple and blue lighting make it really feel like a huge, Arabian night sky. The twinkling lights meant to be stars make it all the more magical to me. Whenever I see Disney lighting it always brings me back to my childhood and fantasy. When we walk into this theatre, it takes me away from the real world for awhile and lets me enter into a beautiful aura of wonder. It lets me walk into a "whole new world", if you will. ;)

Week 6: A Misty-Skied Stonehenge

Last quarter I was in England for a term abroad. It was SUCH an incredible experience, and nothing was more exciting than being able to see the things that make England so interesting and rich in history, such as Stonehenge. Stonehenge is of course an incredible mystery still, even after so many years of research and theorizing. I have always wanted to see it, in fact I wrote about my desire to see it in one of my college application essays while in High School. When I finally got to go, the day was a strange marriage of mysterious and bright, with the sky filled with grey clouds, but the sun still shining through to create a shroud across the sky. I felt exhilarated and excited, and the mystery and power of Stonehenge was heightened by the way the light behaved around it. I think that coexistence of mystery and also adventure are captured well in this photo.

Week #6 Winter Wonderland

Was working when I got assigned to a Winter Formal for a High School their theme was Willy Wonka. It was so beautiful, the arcade games around the room, the endless candy buffet, and WATER. LOL it was funny since my boss was like, "These poor bitches only want water", he was sooo wrong it costed like $100,000 the ticket was for $80 and there were 1250 people there. I love the way they used LED lights as a way to make it look crazy and when the event started they had Lekos rotating around the dancefloor. It made feel like, "DAMN UCI Why can't we make something like this" LOL Hire the drama department to do the lights. Overall I enjoyed the mix of soft and harsh color cues that were presented during the dance. Together with the music it made working on a Saturday worth it.

Week 6: Sunlight on Leaves

I took this picture in Kew Gardens, London, which is a massive botanical garden on the outskirts of the city. This was a very quiet, peaceful area of the park with lots of trees. There was no one around, and all that could be heard was the wind in the leaves. It felt like I was in a secluded forest in the countryside, not in a city. I really liked the way the sunlight was hitting and illuminating the tops of the leaves, so I decided to take a picture. Somehow, I managed to get the angle just right and captured the beautiful shaft of sunlight coming through the leaves on the left. I think the shaft of light, and the patches of light around the leaves, make this photograph look like an impressionist painting. The shaft of light in particular looks like a soft brushstroke. All of the light is very soft and peaceful, which is exactly how I was feeling when I took the picture.

Week 6: Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson

This is an image from tech for Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, UCI's mainstage production last fall. I just loved the lighting for this show as it really supported the concept of the Occupy Movement. Inspiration was drawn from patriotic meetings and rallies while embodying the occasional rock concert feel. The lighting truly supported the epic scope of this political musical. This scene that is taking place in this image is "The Saddest Song", a song where Andrew Jackson vows to keep fighting his enemies. The deep red lighting invokes the idea of all the bloodshed from the Trail of Tears and the wars Andrew has caused.

Week #6 Hope

I talked about dizziness and hope during my presentation this Tuesday.  These pictures are the hope before I arrived at this place.  After seeing those beautiful landscapes, I felt very happy and I forgot the pain of my altitude sickness.  I also felt successful because I got over the unpleasantness of traffic and took these photos.

(These photos are taken at Jiuzhaigou Valley, Sichuan, China.  It's elevation ranges from 6600 to 14800 ft.)

Week 6 Favorite Place

This is another picture from my favorite place in the world Catalina Island. I have always really loved this picture because the sky is literally breathtaking. It was the most clear and sunny day I had ever seen and everything about it was perfect. The water looked so gorgeous too. This picture reminds of how perfect and special days like these are.

Week 6: On My Way to the Apartment

Surprisingly, this photo was taken exactly one month from today. Anyways, I love the intensity of the light in this photograph. The warmth of the sunlight was really empowering. Even with the shade, I ended up sweating. The tree itself looks like a gobo. I also never noticed how well light can define objects whether in specifying it or. The intensity of the light makes every open space between the trees and leaves visible. Although I feel like this picture brings out a positive and natural kind of aura, it also makes me feel under light. In general, light seems to be the authoritative aspect of all of life. I feel that it further proves the fact that we are only small part of something expansive.

Week 6: Skating in the Dark

I used to love going roller skating. It was definitely one of my favorite activities and really the only way I could exercise without realizing that it was a workout. Looking back, it wasn't just the skating that was fun. It was the experience of it all. Walking in and hearing the music blaring, filling me with excitement as I hurriedly put on my skates; I was always the last one on the rink. Stepping onto the skating platform, being plunged into darkness momentarily, then seeing all of the multi colored lights from all around the room, completely surrounding me in blinking colors. The music was great but the lights, that's what made it. When you turned the regular lights back all you saw was a room that resembled a gymnasium. Lights are transformative. They work well with darkness to create an entirely new space with the flick of a few switches. And they have the ability to mold one's experience, like the lights at the skating rink did to mine.

Week 6: Dashboard

I was driving the other night and I noticed that there was a little hole that somehow got made on the bottom of my dashboard. I'm glad it's there because it made this little light beam shine up onto the rest of the dashboard. Because of how harsh the light behind the dashboard is, it allows the light to keep the shape of the hole. This is just like when you block off sections of a leko light to make shapes. I also really like the hue of my dashboard. It's like an otherworldly-alien neon.

Week 6 - Birthday Balloons

This past week I celebrated my Aunt's birthday and they had decorated their dining room with lots of colors and flowers, but one of the coolest parts of the decor was the giant balloons they had in the room. The balloons were bigger than me! I didn't even know they made balloons that big, but they had many different colors around the room. At the end of the night we were all kind of goofing off and playing with the balloons and then someone put some of the balloons over the lights in the ceiling and it created a really cool effect that didn't really come out in the picture. Not only did the balloons light up and look cool, but they acted as gels and gave the room a darker blue lighting. The night was really fun and full of family and the the balloons over the lights really gave the room a more quiet and intimate feel that one can associate with a nice quiet and relaxing celebration with family.

Week 6: Carousel

I remember we were talking about shadows and angles in class, and I found the shadows on this carousel very peculiar. It wasn't that late in the day, maybe around 1-2ish, and i found that the angle of light seemed very peculiar for a sun that was directly above. It gave off an unusual vibe, very mysterious, and i felt a little unsettled, even though the rest of the carousel was well lit. It's unusual how the angle of light can change emotions, especially when you assume the source of light is coming from else where. I cannot properly explain why the shadows on the carousel are like this, though I assume it might have to either do with reflection, or the buildings around it. At any rate, it gave me a lot to think about just through angle and intensity, not colour. It's similar to our picturizations projects I think, how even with no colour, a powerful emotion is stirred.

Week 6: Baby

This is my newest Nephew, Zeek, born just a couple weeks ago. Visually, I love this picture for the warm, soft orange hues. The colors enhance the natural soft warm feeling I get when seeing a sleeping baby. For me, the colors of the lighting reflect my emotion.
Purity is also associated with babies. Lighting and dressing Zeek in whites, perhaps with crisper boundaries and contrast, would create a very different feeling. Purity has connotations of being untouchable, unattainable, while in this picture Zeek sinks deep into the heart.

Week 6: MOJI

This is an image of the piece "MOJI" choreographed by Elke Calvert in last quarter's dance Concert, New Slate that I performed in. The lighting for this piece was designed by Ebony Madry. From taking lighting design this quarter, I am gaining much more of an appreciation for lighting and how much it can elevate a dance on stage. On stage as a performer, you do not fully grasp just how effective the lighting is until you are sitting in the audience. After seeing how powerful and enhancing lighting can be and utilized within choreography, it has greatly inspired me in my own choreography to utilize lighting more as an equal partner within the dance rather then a later step added in after the piece is choreographed. I am looking forward to be able to utilize my new knowledge of lighting design and pairing it with my choreography in future projects next quarter.

Week#6 Pink Hue

I was just hanging out in my friend Floura's room and I noticed her lamp. The outside of the lamp itself looked like it had a pink glass, which reminded me of a gel for light. She told me when she turned off all her lights and only left that one on, her entire room turns pink. Sadly I wanted to take a photo of her entire room but because the color isn't in front of the lamp itself the pink hue isn't as strong so the room still had a natural color. Luckily my friend Kevin used his phone and took the photo for me. I loved the feeling of isolation. The shadows gave a nice effect that tied in with the pink hue on the blinds. Instead of seeing the direction of the light, it seemed to look more like a glow similar to the sun or moon. I come to realize that color brings out the mood and time of a scene but shadows are also as important as color, because they also contribute into creating more dynamic.

Week 4: Masquerade

I took this picture a while ago for a photography final, but I just felt like looking back at it again. Though I appreciate photos that tell stories, I also like when they show mysteries. A visual that can be interpreted differently from person to person is a powerful one because a variety of stories can be told from that one image. In this photo, the light is what makes each possible story mysterious. Both sides of the frame are filled with strong subjects- a brightly lit mask on the left side, and less bright but large portrait with an additional mask on the right. Thus, the viewer's eyes don't know where to look first. Either the mask on the left is drawing her attention, or it is a figment of her imagination that becomes visible right after she looks in that direction. I think this concept of mystery lighting is pretty cool, and can definitely be implemented in lighting design.

Week 4: Sky on Fire

A couple weeks back a friend and I went to Fashion Island. It was right during this most amazing sunset ever. You could look out from the store and see the coast perfectly clear and it was so beautiful. It looked like the sky was on fire. I also loved that Catalina Island was so majestically highlighted it looked like something you would see in Lord of the Rings or some movie like that LOL. I just felt so in awe that nature can be so absolutely gorgeous.

Week 4- The Rainbow Sunset

The day had been filled with dull skies that rained off and on.  Once the rain had ceased later in the day, I went out to dinner and while I was driving, I spotted a faint rainbow that was capturing some of the orange glow from the sunset.  I parked to take a picture of the scene in front of me.  I had never seen a rainbow during sunset and it was just gorgeous seeing the colors emphasized by the orange glow from the sun.  If that was not enough to amaze me, I turned around to see one of the most intense sunsets I have ever seen.  I was in awe as I saw the clouds colored in shades of purple, blue, pink, red and orange.  It was almost as if the sunset was a rainbow itself.  I especially loved seeing the colors through the trees, which created such detailed silhouettes.  It was like the sky was on fire, but it was a harmless, beautiful fire that was created by nature. The lamps that I captured even added an artificial light that almost matched the bright orange of  the sun's light.  I was a nice moment in a day that had been so frustrating.  It was as if the sky was putting on a show to show me how important nature is in my life.

Week 4: Paint the Night

This is an image from Paint the Night, a new night parade coming to Disneyland this spring. As you can see from the image, light is an integral part of this show. I love the intricacy of the costume and float designs that all center around lighting. The experience of designing with light in mind has to be much different than normal costumes. How are they powered? Will they be too heavy for the performer? I'm excited to see what this parade is like when it's comes over here to Disneyland from Disney Hong Kong!

Week 4 - A Ray of Hope

I took this picture of the Oakland Bay Bridge when I went to San Francisco with my friends. i really liked that there were a lot of clouds, even though it made it feel a little gloomy. There were a lot of clouds, but the sun still managed to shine through and light up everything. I don't know why, but that moment and this picture make me feel happy. I feel like the sun us saying that no mater how dark a situation may seem there is always hope and good in the world. I know this sound cheesy, but it is what I feel looking at this. The top part of the clouds are full of light and show that lights is fighting to shine through.

Week 4 Lights in Colored Lights Lit Up from Light....

I took one look into this cafe, and I was instantly enamored with it because of the adorable little lanterns hanging from the ceiling. It is hard to tell from this photo, but the atmosphere was very quirky and comfortable because of the soft light from all the different colored glass. What is interesting about the photo is that the strongest parts of the light within the lamps doesn't look the color of the glass, but rather like normal light still, and it is not until the out edges that you can tell what color the glass is. I feel this is just because of the photo, however. But it made for a very fantastical feel, and it was very comfortable, fun and sweet space to be in. Plus wonderful to look at!

Week 4 - Tower of Terror

I went to Disneyland today and while waiting in line at Tower of Terror I decided to look at all the different lighting inside the building. Normally the first thing I notice is the set decor, but today I took time to take in the light. I took the picture above because the light fixture was casting a design of shadows on the wall and I thought it was a GOBO of sorts even though it isn't in the traditional sense. This was in the lobby, but as you go deeper into the ride you enter the cellar (boiler room?) area. In there it was too dark for me to take any pictures, but I was able to see the actual lighting instruments they were using. There were a lot of LEKOs with top hats being used. I thought it was really cool that I knew what they were using. All the lighting in the ride is used to create a spooky and unsettling ambiance.

Week 4: Follow the brightness

I was wandering around the apartment complex of a friend at night and noticed this pretty awesome display of light. It reminds me of how effective lighting can be used to draw your attention, as you can see via the light your eye at first glance at the picture draws your eye to the back left of the picture. I also liked how despite the lighting being 100% artificial it still is very serene and peaceful to look at with such a gentle display of soft cool colors, all of which very much complemented the stillness of the night.

Week 4: Ballpark

Yes, this is a picture of our beloved Anteater Ballpark. I like to park right up along the wall on the third story of the Mesa parking so that I may overlook the landscape below me during my breaks. These pictures were both taken on two different days, and at different times. On the left we have the ballpark during sunset on a semi-overcast day. There is almost a lavender quality to the light touching the field, probably due to the lavender clouds (Lonnie was right). On the right we have the ballpark in the middle of the afternoon. The light is such a pure white, and there is clarity in the color of the grass. The grass in the picture on the left is dull and muted, while the grass on the right is bright and vibrant. I noticed the lines in the grass differ from picture to picture, probably due to the different angles in which the light is hitting it. I think next time I'll see what it looks like at sunset without the clouds.

Week 4: Pride

This photo was taken at Long Beach Pride on a beautiful summer day! :) I'm no photographer, but I just wanted to capture how colorful and bright it was that day. I love the way the sun can sometimes create sunspots in a photograph, which sort of reminds me of the way a Leko light looks like with an ellipsoidal hard edge reflector. They're like little beams from the Leko on a photograph rather than against a wall, cyc, etc.! I love the colors in this too and the feeling of pride the flags represent to me and the LGBT community. It makes me want to use different gels to portray this same type of pride! Then of course, I just love the beauty of a summer's day and just the brightness of the white light coming from the sun with its faint rays of sunshine. I think the way lighting designers can illustrate this on a stage is very impressive.

Week 4

Sunrise on the Island

I took this picture back in September just on my iPhone, however this picture holds a lot of really special memories to me. I took this picture at sunrise on an island called Nalunega that is located about forty miles off the coast of Panama. It is inhabited by an indigenous group of people called the Guna Yala. Visiting this island and experiencing the culture of this indigenous group was one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced. I took this picture from a man made wooden dock at 5:45 in the morning surrounded by two of my closest friends. The lighting created by the sun coming up coloring the entire sky and ocean was incredibly moving. This picture has always served as an inspiration and reminder of this incredible experience and how I felt at that given moment. At some point I would love to use this picture as inspiration for a lighting design that could recreate the feeling I had at the time of this picture on stage.

Week #4: Sunrise

Every Mondays and Wednesdays, I leave my house at 6 a.m. and arrive at UCI around 6:30 a.m.. By the time I park my car, the sky's usually cloudy with hues of blue and purple. Last Wednesday, however, the sky was filled with colors such as purple, pink, orange, and yellow. For a moment, I thought it was sunset and freaked out, but I double checked my clock and I was wrong. Looking at the sunrise, I couldn't help but feel warmth, happiness, and excitement inside while watching the sun rise. Yes, it's cheesy, but that was how I felt. I took this picture from the 3rd level of Mesa parking structure and it was actually the 5th or 6th picture I took. It was hard capturing that "hallelujah" moment, but I think this picture is the closest thing that could capture what I felt that morning. On a side note, that Wednesday was a really good day: I had class cancelled and hung out with my friend who I haven't seen for months. In a weird cosmic way, that beautiful morning made the rest of my day awesome.

Week 4: Christmas at Disneyland

I took this picture in January during the last week of Disneyland's Christmas celebration. I think of Disneyland as a massive, interactive piece of art, and this is more true at Christmas than at any other time. This picture is of the exterior of "It's a Small World," which was lit with Christmas lights at night. I think this is a stunning use of light - the front of this ride is covered in geometric shapes, and they have outlined each of these shapes in multicolored lights. The colors so beautiful and so carefully chosen - if you take the time to look closely, you can see that the Leaning Tower of Pisa (in the upper right-hand corner) is lit with the colors of Italy's flag. It is magical to look at at night: it seems to shimmer and sparkle, and it provides a striking contrast against the dark sky. As this photograph demonstrates, it is so bright that anyone standing in front of it is cast into silhouette. I have always loved Disneyland for its superb attention to detail, and this definitely extends to its use of light.

Week #4 Sunset

I took this photo on the Top of the World at the Laguna Beach during sunset.  From this picture we can see the colors in the sky are mostly blue, red and yellow.  All those colors mixed together and became a white spot at the bottom of the sky, and that was where the sun was.  In the future lighting design about the sunset, I will choose blue, red and yellow as my hues.

Week # 4 All Hail The King

I took a photo with a pro League of Legends player, Dyrus. After looking at I realized that the light was at first too harsh that had too much light. My friend later told me that it wasn't like that, the light was meant to show the holy awesomeness of him. He was of course joking, but I started to think and kinda agreed with him that though the light may display a very harsh tone it did had some aspects of symbolism. That in the gaming world this guy is like a god and that the light in the photo emphasis the power he has in that world. All and all it was a good day watching video games, eating, taking photos. I choose this photo because I like how the position of the light gave the photo a biblical feeling of were in the present of a important person.
